For those of you in Columbus, I’ve compiled a list of bookstores and other literary spots.
Columbus area bookstores:
Many of these have readings if you follow their event calendars, and some sell used books.
Two Dollar Radio Headquarters – Columbus’ own indie press! The indie bookstore has readings, events, and doubles (triples?) as a vegan restaurant/bar/coffee shop.
Cover to Cover Books Children’s bookstore with events and readings
Other bookish spots:
Kafe Kerouac – Coffee shop with literary-themed drinks (some with booze!) with open-mic poetry nights and other events, doubles as a used bookstore.
Thurber House – Former home of James Thurber, museum, offers readings, writing workshops, writers-in-residence.
Ohioana Library – Library of Ohio authors, musicians, and artists, gives away book awards and holds the Ohioana Book Festival annually in the spring.
Columbus Metropolitan Library – Can’t leave out the public library!
Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum – Ohio State’s cartoon museum with events and workshops featuring cartoonists, comics, and graphic novelists.
Columbus-based Presses and Journals:
Events Listings:
Columbus Underground has a pretty decent events calendar – filter on literary events.
Flyover Fest is an annual event put on by Two Dollar Radio showcasing literature, music, and film.
Neat!
